The month of Tishrei's concept - the birthday of the world, and that of Bereishet/Genesis, the first Torah reading in the Jewish Year, are closely connected. Chapters 1 and 2 of Genesis describe the process of the creation of the world. Hashem (G-d) created the world in six days, and on the seventh day He refrained from creative activity, thereby "creating" the concept rest.

Verse 25:
"And G-d made the beast of the earth according to its kind, and the animal according to its kind, and every creeping being of the ground according to its kind"

Verse 27:
"And G-d created man in His image, in the image of G-d. He created them, male and female. He created them."
