Genesis Chapter 2, Verse 2
The Seventh Day of Creation
"Vayichal Elokim Bayom Hashivi'ee, Milachto Asher Asa,
Vayishbot Bayom Hashvi'ee Meekol Milachto asher Asa"
"And God completed on the seventh day, His work which He had done, and He abstained on the seventh day from all His work which He had done"
Overview of the Biblical Text:
Saturday as a blessed day of rest, is a gift given by G-d to the Jewish people. On this day man can remove himself from the daily stresses of life and spiritually connect with G-d and himself. When people work and work without stopping they get tired (and grumpy). G-d gave us a special day to relax so that we have strength and energy to face the new week.
Discussion Questions:
- Why does Shabbat come at the end of the week?
- How is Shabbat different than the rest of the week?
- Does G-d rest because He is tired?
Activity Ideas:
- Have a Shabbat dinner for lunch on Friday.
