This Month's Songs:

Uga

Introduction:

This is a song played by children in Israel, along the lines of "Ring Around the Rosie." There are two choices of lyrics, depending upon how comfortable the teacher and/or children are with Hebrew. (Version 1 is sung entirely in Hebrew and Version 2 is sung in Hebrew and English.) In both versions of the song, when you get to "lashevet, lakum" sit and stand according to the directions.

Lyrics:

Version 1:

Uga, uga, uga! Bamagal nachuga.

Histovevet kol hayom,

Ad asher nimtzah makom.

Lashevet, lakum! (3x)

We play in a circle.

We spin around [the circle] all day,

Until we find our spot.

Sit [down], stand [up]! (3x)

Version 2:

Uga, uga, uga! Bamagal nachuga.

Uga is the funny name,

Of our little circle game.

Lashevet, lakum! (3x)
