Kol Han'shama

Introduction:

The words in this song are from the last line of the last psalm in the Book of Psalms. The ArtScroll Siddur says that "man must enrich his spiritual self by recognizing G-d’s greatness and kindness by praising Him." This psalm is part of the morning liturgy in the P’sukei D’zimra - introductory psalms. We have featured two different melodies that you can use with your students.

Melody 1:

This melody is very calming. Lisa L. asks her students "What breathes?" She also asks them to listen to the sound their breath makes. When they get to the "halleluyah" section she asks the children to sing more softly until nothing but their breath is heard. Often they mouth the words as well. It’s a great way to get the children to relax after an exciting activity.

Kol han’shamaLet all souls (Let all who breathe)
T’haleil-yaPraise G-d.
Halleluyah, Halleluyah, Halleluyah Praise G-d, Praise G-d,
Praise G-d.

Melody 2:

This melody is upbeat and full of joy.

Kol han’shama t'haleil-yaLet all souls (all who breathe) praise G-d.
Kol han’shama t'haleil-yaLet all souls praise G-d.
Halleluyah, Halleluyah, Halleluyah Praise G-d, Praise G-d, Praise G-d.
Kol han’shama t'haleil-yaLet all souls (all who breathe) praise G-d.
Halleluyah Praise G-d.
