Introduction:
This classic children's song is the English equivalent of the Hebrew song "La Kova Sheli" (My Hat). It's an appropriate selection for Purim when we discuss Haman's three-cornered hat and is a fun song to sing with hand motions. As you sing the song, you eliminate words and replace them with humming and hand motions. By the end of the song you have a lot of humming, frantic hand movements and a lot of fun.
This is a great song to do with hand motions. Have your students think up some creative hand motions to use as they sing the song or feel free to use these traditional hand motions:
- My - point to self
- Hat - point to head
- Three - hold up three fingers
- Corners - point to your bent elbow

Lyrics:
My hat, it has three corners.
Three corners has my hat.
If my hat had not three corners,
It would not be my hat.
Sing the verse again, leaving out the word "hat":
My ___, it has three corners.
Three corners has my ___.
If my ___ had not three corners,
It would not be my ___.
Sing the verse again, leaving out the word "hat" and an additional word. (We have removed the word "three"):
My___, it has ___ corners.
___ corners has my ___.
If my ___ had not ___ corners,
It would not be my ___.
Leave out an additional word with each verse, using a hand motion instead of the spoken word, until the song is mostly humming and pointing.
