S'Vivon

Introduction:

This simple and fun Hebrew song teaches students the Hebrew word for dreidel "s'vivon" and presents a lot of teaching opportunities. The English translation says that Hanukkah is a "good holiday", and a "happy holiday" and also features the phrase "A Great miracle happened there." Students can expound on these topics and have discussions about Hanukkah and miracles. The song also provides the chance to teach some Hebrew letters. How about opening with the Dreidel Cheer: "Give me a Nun... Nun! Give me a Gimel... Gimel!, etc."

Lyrics:

S'vivon, sov sov sov.
Chanukah hu hag tov.
Chanukah hu hag tov,
S'vivon, sov sov sov!
Chag simcha hu la-am,
Neis gadol hayah sham.
Neis gadol hayah sham,
Chag simcha hu la-am.
  Dreidel, spin, spin, spin
Chanukah it is a good holiday
Chanukah it is a good holiday
Dreidel, spin, spin, spin
A happy holiday for our people
A great miracle happened there
A great miracle happened there
A happy holiday for our people
