This Month's Songs:

Degel Yisrael
(Flag of Israel)

Introduction:

This song, which contains simple Hebrew and a very singable melody, is ideal for all ages. Pointing to the flag, or to yourself, as you sing helps to teach the meaning of the words. This is a great way to introduce the Hebrew words for white and blue--Ask the children to point to the "lavan" (white) or "kachol" (blue) in their own clothing or around the room. This song can also be a good springboard for discussion and activities about the flag of Israel. Go on a "treasure hunt" to find a Magen David in the classroom or elsewhere in the school. Have students create an Israel flag collage.

Lyrics:

Degel, degel, yesh li degel!
Degel, degel, degel li.
Yesh li degel! Eizeh degel?
Degel Yisrael!
Yesh li lavan, yesh li kachol,
Yesh li Magen David.
Yesh li degel! Eizeh degel?
Degel Yisrael!
A flag, a flag! I have a flag!
A flag! A flag! My flag!
I have a flag! Which flag?
The flag of Israel!
I have white, I have blue,
I have a Star of David.
I have a flag! Which flag?
The flag of Israel!
