Why This Recipe:
Israel Independence Day provides an excellent opportunity for students to explore the colors blue and white through a variety of different activities. Encourage students to reflect upon the colors blue and white and to identify blue and white in various familiar environments- at school, at home, outside, etc.
This blue and white buffet provides an opportunity to apply their knowledge of the colors blue and white to something that they are very familiar with-- food.
Have students brainstorm ideas for different foods and beverages that have the colors blue or white in them- items that are just blue, items that are just white and items that contain both blue and white. Have a buffet, featuring a variety of blue and white foods. Serve all the foods on a table with a blue and white tablecloth, on blue and/or white plates with blue and/or white napkins.
Discuss students observations about the blue and white foods-- Why are there so few blue foods?
