Israel Flag Collage
Introduction:
This idea from Anne in Massachusetts is a fun and creative way for your entire class to make a large flag of Israel using a variety of materials.
Directions:
- A large piece of paper or posterboard
- White collage items- white fabric, tissue paper, cotton balls, pom poms, yarn, buttons, lace, etc.
- Blue collage items- fabric, streamer paper, tissue paper, pom poms, yarn, buttons, etc.
- Glue
Directions:
- Show the class a picture of the Israeli flag. Have students discuss what it looks like and its colors.
- Explain that the class will be making their own Israeli flag for their classroom, using a variety of blue and white materials. Have students brainstorm ideas for blue and white materials that they could include in the collage. Have students bring in some materials from home to include, make their own blue and white shapes and designs (using crayons, paint, colored paper), etc. Students can also create a "tissue paper" flag collage by using small pieces of tissue paper which they twist and then glue onto the paper.
- Draw lines across the paper to show the location of the blue stripes. Lay down the paper so that all of the students can access it.
- Ask students to glue blue collage items between the lines to create the blue stripes.
- Have students glue white collage items on the rest of the paper.
- Using blue fabric, paper, streamers, etc., have students create two triangles for the Star of David.
- When the collage is done, have students discuss the different textures, shapes and fabrics that they selected for their collage.
