This Month's Songs:

Ani Lidodi Vidodi Li
(To the tune of "Farmer in the Dell; Words by Miriam Arnstein)

Introduction:

The word "Elul" is an acronym for Ani Lidodi Vidodi Li (I am to my beloved (G-D) and my beloved (G-D) is to me. Here is a song that celebrates this phrase.

Lyrics:

Ani Lidodi Vidodi Li
I love Hashem and Hashem loves me
Ani Lidodi Vidodi Li
I love Hashem and Hashem loves me

This is the month of Elul
The shofar blows each day
It says wake up do Te'shuvah
Be good in every way.

Note: Hashem is the way that we refer to G-D without saying His real name-- Adonai (G-D). According to Commandment #3 of the Ten Commandments, G-D's real name is not to be used in vain and should only be used when we are learning the Torah or during prayer. Some people, therefore, use the term "Hashem" (which literally means "The Name") to refer to G-D in conversations and songs like the one featured here.
