Drawing Lots
Introduction:
"Purim" means lots, or chances. "Drawing Lots" is fun to do with students throughout the week of Purim to explore this concept.
Here are some ways to experiment with the concept of chance throughout the week of Purim:
- Have all activities during the week of Purim be chosen by lots, e.g., line leader, job charts. Use a deck of cards, or a portion of a deck of cards to determine who gets what task. For example, whoever picks the king gets to be the line leader, whoever picks the queen gets to feed the fish, etc.
- Cast the roles in a puppet show or dramatic version of the Purim story by cards. The black queen is Vashti, the red queen is Esther, the black jack is Haman, etc.
- Have students draw a name of a classmate out of a hat and have them make a special Purim gift for that person.
