Introduction:

The symbol of the shofar is very prominent during the high holidays. It is a wake-up call telling us that a new year is beginning, and it is time to remind ourselves to make good choices in the year ahead despite any mistakes we made the year before. Ask the children to suggest a hand motion that mimics the shape of the shofar or create models of the shofar to use in the classroom. Bring in a real shofar and ask the children how they think the sound is made.
