This Month's Songs:

Mabul
Written and sung by Lisa Litman.

Introduction:

Here is a song about the flood, the "mabul", written and sung by Lisa L. Start by having students sing the song quietly, tapping two fingers together. With each verse, sing louder, clap louder, slap knees, and eventually get to pounding on the floor to create the sounds of a rainstorm in the classroom. To end peacefully, gently raise your arms high above your head as you say, "And the water began to rise until it covered all the earth." For added fun, try using rainsticks during the song.

Lyrics:

Listen to the rain.
Here comes the mabul.
Mabul, mabul,
A flood is a mabul.
Repeat, increasing the volume

(Spoken)
And the water began to rise until it covered all the earth,
And nothing could be seen except water and Noah's ark.
