Pita
Why This Recipe:
Here is a recipe for Pita Bread from JCC preschool teacher Sarit in Massachusetts.
Ingredients:
- 1 oz yeast
- 2 cups warm water
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 4 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
Directions:
- Mix yeast, 1/2 cup warm water and sugar together.
- Let stand until foams (10-15 minutes).
- Add the flour, the rest of the water (1 1/2 cups) and salt to yeast mixture.
- Knead until becomes smooth dough. (Add flour if too sticky).
- Divide the dough into 6 parts.
- Roll each part into a ball.
- Place the balls on a floured tray and spread a bit of flour over the balls.
- Cover with a clean towel, and let rise for about an hour.
- Roll each ball with a pin to about 1/2 inch thick.
- Arrange the balls on a greased baking tray, and bake on high for about 10-15 minutes or until golden brown.
